deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: June 29
Day 17: Tuesday
Departure: Orange Cove, CA
Arrival: Visalia, CA

Distance: 54 miles
Highlights: Pedal through CA central valley farmland.
Description: This may be the easiest day of the trip. We did 54-miles with a tailwind and on super flat terrain. We departed by 9:15am and spent 2-hours at lunch at a campground swimming hole. It wasn’t as hot as yesterday, but still was pretty warm. The deCycles continued through this rich farmland with signs of strawberries and peaches for sale. That can make a cyclist very hungry. Before we knew it, we arrived in Visalia after pedaling 16.4 mph average. The groups were really hammering down the highway today.

Our arrival in Visalia was at a beautiful church, home of deCycles veteran Sherri Strickland. She and her family arranged a spaghetti meal for the group. It was a delight. We later sang some songs and shared some deCycles war stories. The group will be getting ready to tour Sequoia NP tomorrow morning.

The status update on Nicole Scott is that her injury condition is improving considerably. The neuro contusions are reducing and swelling is going down. She’ll be in ICU for observation for one more night and will be transferred for several days observation until being released. Nicole’s mom call us about this update. WE ARE RELIEVED! We continue to hold Nicole in our hearts and hope for full recovery. It looks like this is happening already.
Climate: Clear, sunny, hot all day. High 90s.
Overnight: Visalia Methodist Church
