deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: July 1
Day 19: Thursday
Departure: Visalia, CA
Arrival: Bakersfield, CA

Distance: 81 miles
Highlights: Pedal through lower central valley of CA.
Description: We leave Visalia around 8:30am and suddenly one group is lost. Keagan and Max took their group on an 18-mile joy ride above and beyond the total of 81-miles today. I wonder if their group still likes them. Getting lost is not fun. They failed to make the first turn out of town. Fortunately the terrain was flat and we had a tailwind. Somehow these riders should realize why they always have a tailwind. Research helps. Mapman Robin Houze, Norm, and Bob all research the route long before the trip to anticipate headwinds, tailwinds, climbing, traffic patterns, and countless other things.

Today we arrived in Bakersfield by 3:00pm. The groups moved down the road very quickly. They are strong. Temps were tolerable. Things are going well. Our rider left behind….Nicole Scott is continuing to improve from her injuries sustained 4-days ago. She remains in the Modesto, CA hospital until the end of the week.

Two days to go. We’ll cover about 160-miles to get to L.A. on Saturday. We need to stay focused.
Climate: Clear, sunny, hot all day. High 90s.
Overnight: Unity Church of Bakersfield
