deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: June 21
Day 9: Monday
Departure: Klamath Falls, OR
Arrival: Mt Shasta, CA

Distance: 85 miles
Highlights: All day view of Mt. Shasta
Description: We were beginning to wonder. Finally….a nice day for a change. We departed Klamath Falls and almost immediately Mt. Shasta came into view 80-miles away. This is now my most favorite mountain! It is absolutely magnificent. And our eyes were fixed on this huge volcano all day. Just look at the pictures.

Today seemed like an easy day. It was flat most of the way except for a 1000-ft climb over 3-miles at mid-day. This group scaled that climb very easily. All riders are starting to click. The physical transformations are happening right now. A few knees and heels were sore, but less than before. Bethan Evans had some back spasms. Today was the first day of significant sunscreen usage.

The town of Mt. Shasta is enchanting and full of helpful people. We’re fixing our own meal tonight and we have comfortable but cramped accommodations. We’ll finish up with secret pals tonight. Lights out will be early because we have a very challenging day tomorrow.
Climate: Sunny, cool, no clouds. Beautiful day. Lows in 40s. Highs in 70s.
Overnight: First United Methodist Church
Webmaster note: A very special thanks to Phil & Barbara Ward for taking me to an internet cafe in the afternoon and their home in the evening, so that I could connect to the internet with today's website updates.
