deCycles Southeast America 2014
Journal Entry
Day 3 ... Monday, June 23

Start: Miami Beach, FL

End: Palm Beach, FL

Distance: 68-mi.

Terrain: Flat coastline riding

Climate: Upper 90s, humid, hot, sunny, hot, sunny, hot!!

Today is swim day.   First stop was Ft. Lauderdale beach.  We pedaled 25-miles to jump in the ocean for about 90-minutes.  It was getting close to lunch so it was decided to stay and have lunch along the seaside.  Next stop was a beach north of Boca Raton for a second swim in the ocean.   The deCycles then peeled off 27-miles in the heat to end the day at 4;30pm at a beautiful Episcopalian Cathedral in the heart of Palm Beach.  This property is amazing, but the place we are staying is tight.  So we'll do our best to pack in like sardines.

Most of the riders are doing well on tolerating the heat.  A few have been instructed to drink more, eat more, and listen intently to safety guidelines.  We've covered almost 250-miles in 3-days and the shoulders are starting to ache, tendons are swelling, and hands are getting numb.  This is part of the break-in period that will last about 5-6 days.  Then hardly anyone will be complaining and will accept it as just part of the everyday process on a deCycles trip.

The seaside was gorgeous and the riders enjoyed their time in the ocean.  Tomorrow is a more difficult day with over 100-miles scheduled.  Hoping for taillwinds.
