deCycles Southeast America 2014
Journal Entry
Day 4 ... Tuesday,  June 24

Start: Palm Beach, FL

End: Melbourne, FL

Distance: 105-mi.

Terrain: Flat coastline riding

Climate: Upper 90s, humid, hot, sunny, hot, sunny, hot!!

Our overnight stay in this downtown Episcopalian cathedral was like living in a castle in Europe.  Gothic-style high arched cathedral reminded us of European architecture.  This was perhaps one of the most impressive churches we have stayed overnight.  We enjoyed every minute.

The ride through downtown Palm Beach was impressive.  It is beautiful, clean, and wealthy.  No time to gawk and look around however since we have over 100-miles to pedal today along the coastline.  This will be the first century ride for several rookies.  It was easy to notice their fear,  but they also look determined.  So we'll see what emotion prevails.

We tried to get up early,  but laundry sorting consumed most of our time.  That is always a monumental process on a deCycles trip.  The riders looked a little flat this morning which is also a common assessment by the 4th day.  Several may be wondering why they signed up for this journey.  Now they understand all the commotion about pre-trip training and it's importance relative to safety and enjoyment on the trip.

It got hotter by the minute as the day rolled on.  The coastline is beautiful and the riders are enjoying any chance to get close to the water.  We arrived around 5:30pm and the host church Chapel By The Sea was preparing grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for the entire group.  Wow, that was a surprise.  The deCycles stayed here back in 2003 and requested we come for a return visit sometime.  They continue to pull out the red carpet for visitors.   We thank them so much.   Our accommodations are comfortable and we can spread out.  We had an ice cream party for Emily Carrico for her 18th birthday on the trip.  Emily is a group leader and is enjoying this trip more than ever.

Tomorrow on Day 5 the deCycles will visit the Kennedy Space Center.  We will stay on the ground.
