Journal Entry
Day 22 ... Saturday, July 12

Start: Lexington, KY

End: Louisville, KY

Distance: 91-miles

Terrain: Easy rolling hills.

Climate: Sunny, low 90s.  Slight headwind.  Gorgeous horse farms.

It was another day of exciting cycling in Kentucky.  This is a beautiful area and today we will pedal through the nicest and most plentiful horse farms on the planet.  After departing Broadway Christian Church and a blessing from Doug, the assistant pastor, the deCycles escorted through downtown Lexington past Rupp Arena and the UK campus.  Then the terrain quickly changed to horse farm near Keeneland Park.  This is a ride everyone should take.  It is breathtaking.  Our lunch destination is Frankfurt, the capitol of Kentucky.  This capitol building is one of the most spectacular in the U.S.  with the entire interior made of marble.  We took advantage of the situation and had several official group photos taken on the front steps of the capitol building.

After lunch, we climbed out of the valley of Frankfurt and headed to east Louisville where Mapman Robin Houze's family was eagerly awaiting our arrival.  There they offered a cookout and full meal at Robin's house.  The riders were greatly satisfied and had a great time.  We still sang our theme song in appreciation for all the work.  Thanks again Robin.

The group donned their helmets and pedaled the final 20-miles downtown to our overnight church.  We stayed here once before in 2007.   They are very accommodating.  We arrived pretty late around 8:30pm due to our tour through Cherokee and Seneca parks.   We scurried through our evening jobs and quickly took showers and in bed by 11pm.  Tomorrow is the final day and over 100-miles are scheduled.   We need to get our sleep for one more day.  Hope we can keep everyone rubber side up.  See you in Bloomington around 5pm at the courthouse square.
