deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: June 19
Day 7: Saturday
Departure: Crescent, OR
Arrival: Klamath Falls, OR

Distance: 90 miles
Highlights: Visit Crater Lake NP
Description: This is really crazy. The temps were in the high 20s early in the morning. I wouldn’t even pedal 5-miles in this cold back home in January. They call it Juneuary here. Brrrr! The first groups took off at 7:00am. I wore everything in my luggage along with socks as mittens for my hands and toes. Those who didn’t bring the stuff they needed are improvising with towels, plastic bags, and anything they got to brave the cold. It was a sunny day but still cold. We broke up into two groups to shuttle riders to Crater Lake NP. It was a big hassle, but was worth it. The views of the lake were absolutely stunning. We were unable to ride the park because of road closure and 20-ft of snow in places at the south entrance. All the riders were stunned by the magnificent beauty of this highest alpine lake in America. The final groups will visit Crater Lake on Sunday.

Many riders are getting stronger. Despite the elements, they just push through it without complaint. Some are getting careless. Those few having trouble need an attitude change and pay attention. They often eat poorly…buying junk food at gas stations. They stay up longer at night. And they aren’t doing their jobs. Typical deCycles stuff. This is 3-weeks of making transformations. We’ll see how things go.

One crash took down 3-riders today. One of those riders has been involved in 3-crashes in the past 3-days, so our attention is really focused on her. It seems to be the same people causing crashes. All injuries have been minor, but it takes a toll on their confidence and on their bikes. The Goodwrench team is very busy taking care of stuff that didn’t have to happen. Our rest day this weekend will help everyone catch up.

Our overnight accommodations here in Klamath Falls is exceptional. The church secretary has been very gracious. We’re looking forward to a peaceful time here in Southern Oregon.
Climate: Partly sunny. Beautiful day but breezy and cold. High 20s in the am.
Overnight: First United Methodist Church
