deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: June 27
Day 15: Sunday
Rest day: Mariposa, CA

Distance: Rest day
Highlights: Tour of Yosemite National Park
Description: Today was a logistical nightmare. Our overnight location is 40-miles from Yosemite NP, therefore, 2/3 of the group were to shuttle on the YART bus system. The other 1/3 of the group would be transported in the deCycles 15-passenger vans. We had to work out things with the church concerning Sunday morning services and the following brunch. It is too detailed to go into all the planning to get 75-people to the park, but suffice to say that it was difficult and was eventually sabotaged by the bus driver who discriminated passengers based on color……the color orange. He said he could take 45-people from the same group. So at 6:15am in the morning, some orange colored teens were bumped off the bus. This created a problem in our transportation logistics, but the church folks really helped us out. Finally the bus system admitted they made a mistake, so they brought us all back in the evening at no charge. So in the end, we were facilitated, but it was tense there for awhile.

Yosemite is a grand environment. I’ve been there 3-times and can’t get enough of it. The panoramic views are dazzling. The riders were intrigued by the massive structures of granite walls and roaring streams and waterfalls. They scrambled on the boulders at Yosemite Lower Falls. A few trekked up to the upper falls. Several hiked Vernal Falls and Bridal Falls. At the end of their rest day, they were worn out from hiking. But they all felt it was worth it……just listen to today’s audio journal.

We are back in for the night and ready to hit the sack. Today was a grand adventure in one of America’s oldest national parks.
Climate: Clear, sunny, hot all day. Lower 90s.
Overnight: Mariposa Methodist Church
