deCycles Pacific Mountains 2010
Journal Entry
Date: June 30
Day 18: Wednesday
Rest day: Visalia, CA

Distance: Rest day
Highlights: Tour Sequoia NP and Kings Canyon NP.
Description: Rest day in the middle of the week. It can’t get any better than this. We have been treated like royalty here in Visalia. Our overnight accommodations are luxurious and spacious. The temperatures are comfortable and everything is much easier than last week. This is the home church of deCycles veteran Sherri Strickland. Many thanks to John and Norma Price, Sherri’s parents for facilitating our stay here in Visalia.

The tour of Sequoia NP was peaceful and relaxing…..much different than Yosemite a few days ago. It gave everyone the opportunity to reflect and calm down. Hiking amongst the largest living things on the planet can offer one a different perspective. When you touch of one these trees, you feel the energy of the ages. We send that energy to Nicole Scott as she continues to improve her condition from a bicycle accident 3-days ago.

Tomorrow is a moderate day in the lower central valley of California. This area produce over 80% of the vegetables and fruits for the entire United States. Every square mile has fruit trees, grapes, strawberries, and countless other vegetables growing along the roads we travel. This is as interesting as the majestic mountains. Three more days until we touch the ocean with our front tires.
Climate: Clear, sunny, hot all day. High 90s.
Overnight: Visalia Methodist Church
