deCycles Mexico to Canada 2013
Journal Entry
Date: June 26
Day6: Wednesday
Departure: Sante Fe, NM
Arrival: Taos, NM

Distance:  73-miles.  15.3-mph average.
Climate:  Sunny, hot, mid 90s.  Variable high winds all day.  Two big climbs today.
Overnight:   Grace Brethren Church

The deCycles rolled out of Santa Fe in a double file escort through downtown.  There were two choices for routes to Taos.....the high road and the low road.  We took the low road due to 2400' less climbing and 5-miles less distance.  That's a no brainer!  It got hotter by the minute.  After lunch along a canyon river and some swimming, things got nasty.  1500 ft climb and more heat was  in store for the group.  Bo Henderson and Maggie Kennedy were the first riders up the mountain.  Over the next hour, the riders crested the mountain one by one.  Off in the distance was the river gorge canyon and the Jimez Mountains.  What a view!!!  Taos was 12-miles down in the valley and the riders quickly made their way to this unique resort town in northern NM.  This concluded 481-miles pedaled since we arrived in El Paso one week ago.  It's time for a break.  This group is ready to rest.
